Traditional Southeastern Beadwork class with Martha Berry at the Oklahoma History Center June 2014
About this time last year I was able to take a Beginning Traditional Cherokee Beadwork Class with Martha Berry. I had been creating beadwork pieces since I was seven years old, but I learned techniques and beadwork stitches from Martha Berry that I had never seen before! I had been wanting to meet her and learn from her for many years. I was almost star struck this day. Can you tell?! Ha!
This is my first purse created from her class pattern and provided materials. I hope that I did her lessons justice :-)
Since then, I have created a purse of my very own, from design to finish. The designs are inspired by Martha's and is a dedication to her. If you visit her website and browse her creations, you will see similar spirals and flower designs. www.berrybeadwork.com
I have begin a new design and am currently beading it. I will give you a sneak peek….
The design idea was inspired by pre-contact shell carvings….
Stay tuned for thoughts on tomorrow's class with Martha Berry. I have been waiting for this class for a whole year! I am so excited I hope I can sleep tonight! Thanks for stopping in and seeing my work. I am a work in progress myself and am glad to be sharing the growth with all of you. Have a great day and I hope to see you here again very soon.
